AUA organizes Food Sovereignty Action Days at community gardens and urban farms across the city all season long and we want you! These group volunteering action days seek to:

  • Support food sovereignty: the right of peoples to define their own food and agriculture systems
  • Cultivate healthy and culturally relevant food and medicine produced through ecologically sound methods
  • Connect community-based urban growing projects with needed people power
  • Strengthen Chicago’s urban ag community and networks by forging new relationships across the city

There’s no better way to experience the impact of urban agriculture than by getting out into Chicago’s urban fields! All skill and experience levels welcome. RSVPs requested, please click on individual sites below for more details!

We are starting our search for urban gardens/farms. 10-30 volunteers are able to support you! If you are interested in participating, fill out the google form to be considered. Unless otherwise noted, Food Sovereignty Action Days are Saturdays from 9am-noon. See our events calendar for other volunteer opportunities, and contact us with questions at
