We are pleased to announce that Dr. Andrew Margenot, Assistant Professor of Soil Sciences at the University of Illinois will be offering free on-site soil lead screening, and presenting the Chicago Safe Soils Initiative. This project will build tools to inform stakeholder decision-making and develop evidence-based guidelines for soil lead (Pb) risk to food production.
Please join the Chicago Master Gardeners for potluck supper and this opportunity to learn about lead contamination in urban soils and have your soil screened on-site for heavy metals, using pXRF technology.
Please see https://web.extension.illinois.edu/cook/downloads/79166.pdf for instructions on how to take a soil sample.
Please RSVP if you will be joining us: https://doodle.com/poll/5v86yy69dyrqaxe7
Extension will provide the main dish, attendees are invited to bring a side, beverage or dessert if you’d like.
This event is free and open to all Chicago metro region stakeholders.
